Ganges– Brahmaputra, India and Bangladesh.Rivers and bays that have been known to exhibit bores include those listed below. The force of the tidal bore flow often poses a challenge to scientific measurements, as evidenced by a number of field work incidents in the River Dee, Rio Mearim, Daly River, and Sélune River. Scientific studies have been carried out at the River Dee in Wales in the United Kingdom, the Garonne and Sélune in France, the Daly River in Australia, and the Qiantang River estuary in China. The tidal bores also provide opportunity for recreational inland surfing, such as the Seven Ghosts bore on the Kampar River, Indonesia. The estuarine zones are the spawning and breeding grounds of several native fish species, while the aeration induced by the tidal bore contributes to the abundant growth of many species of fish and shrimp (for example in the Rokan River, Indonesia). On the other hand, tidal bore-affected estuaries are rich feeding zones and breeding grounds of several forms of wildlife. The tidal bores affect the shipping and navigation in the estuarine zone, for example, in Papua New Guinea (in the Fly and Bamu Rivers), Malaysia (the Benak in the Batang Lupar), and India (the Hooghly River bore). In China, despite warning signs erected along the banks of the Qiantang River, a number of fatalities occur each year by people who take too much risk with the bore. Certain rivers such as the Seine in France, the Petitcodiac River in Canada, and the Colorado River in Mexico to name a few, have had a sinister reputation in association with tidal bores. The word bore derives through Old English from the Old Norse word bára, meaning "wave" or "swell." The low-frequency sound is a characteristic feature of the advancing roller in which the air bubbles entrapped in the large-scale eddies are acoustically active and play the dominant role in the rumble-sound generation. The bore rumble is heard far away because its low frequencies can travel over long distances. A tidal bore creates a powerful roar that combines the sounds caused by the turbulence in the bore front and whelps, entrained air bubbles in the bore roller, sediment erosion beneath the bore front and of the banks, scouring of shoals and bars, and impacts on obstacles. The velocity observations indicate a rapid deceleration of the flow associated with the passage of the bore as well as large velocity fluctuations. The tidal bore induces a strong turbulent mixing in the estuarine zone, and the effects may be felt along considerable distances. The visual observations of tidal bores highlight the turbulent nature of the surging waters. Two key features of a tidal bore are the intense turbulence and turbulent mixing generated during the bore propagation, as well as its rumbling noise. Large bores can be particularly unsafe for shipping but also present opportunities for river surfing. ![]() Ī tidal bore may take on various forms, ranging from a single breaking wavefront with a roller – somewhat like a hydraulic jump – to undular bores, comprising a smooth wavefront followed by a train of secondary waves known as whelps. The view is oblique towards the mouth from airplane at approximately 30 m (100 ft) altitude. ![]() Undular bore and whelps near the mouth of Araguari River in northeastern Brazil. A tidal bore takes place during the flood tide and never during the ebb tide. The funnel-like shape not only increases the tidal range, but it can also decrease the duration of the flood tide, down to a point where the flood appears as a sudden increase in the water level. It is a strong tide that pushes up the river, against the current.īores occur in relatively few locations worldwide, usually in areas with a large tidal range (typically more than 6 meters (20 ft) between high and low tide) and where incoming tides are funneled into a shallow, narrowing river or lake via a broad bay. A water wave traveling upstream a river or narrow bay because of an incoming tideĪ bore in Morecambe Bay, in the United Kingdom Video of the Arnside Bore, in the United Kingdom The tidal bore in Upper Cook Inlet, in AlaskaĪ tidal bore, often simply given as bore in context, is a tidal phenomenon in which the leading edge of the incoming tide forms a wave (or waves) of water that travels up a river or narrow bay, reversing the direction of the river or bay's current.

Ear syringing is most effective when water, saline, or wax dissolving drops are put in the ear canal 15 to 30 minutes before treatment. Common solutions used for syringing include water and saline, which should be warmed to body temperature to prevent dizziness. ![]() Irrigation or ear syringing is commonly used for cleaning and can be performed by a physician or at home using a commercially available irrigation kit. Detergent drops such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide (available in most pharmacies) may also aid in the removal of wax. Patients can try placing a few drops of mineral oil, baby oil, glycerin, or commercial drops in the ear. Most cases of ear wax blockage respond to home treatments used to soften wax. This condition is call cerumen impaction. The ears should be cleaned when enough earwax gathers to cause symptoms or to prevent a needed assessment of the ear by your doctor. Ideally, the ear canals should never have to be cleaned. What Are the Treatment Options?Ĭleaning a working ear can be done by washing it with a soft cloth, but do not insert anything into the ear. Discontinue the habit of inserting cotton-tipped swabs or other objects into the ear canals. Therefore, special care should be given to this part of the body. The ear is a delicate and complicated body part, including the skin of the ear canal and the eardrum. Good intentions to keep ears clean may lessen the ability to hear. In addition, accidental trauma to the ear drum or ear bones can occur if the swab is pushed too deep. Most cleaning attempts merely push the wax deeper into the ear canal which is shaped like an hourglass, causing a blockage at the narrowing part of the ear canal. This is often caused by attempts to clean the ear with cotton swabs. Wax blockage is one of the most common causes of hearing loss. Why Is It Dangerous to Use Swabs to Remove Earwax? These objects only push the wax in deeper in the ear canal. When a patient has wax blockage against the eardrum, it is often because they have been probing the ear with such things as cotton-tipped swabs, bobby pins, or twisted napkin corners.

John the Worker school in Orefield, Pennsylvania participated in a "Rainbow Loom-a-thon", weaving rubber-band bracelets for cancer patients. As of October 2013, Rainbow Loom's YouTube channel featured 66 how-to videos and had received nearly 4 million views. Grade school-age children make and swap their rubber-band bracelets in the same way as friendship bracelets, and children have posted thousands of their own instructional videos online. Targeted at children aged 8 to 14, Rainbow Loom became a popular pastime in summer camps and summer clubs in 2013, according to The New York Times and Today. Reception Multicolored rubber bands, used to create items with the Rainbow Loom There are two versions of the Hair Loom Studio, a large "double" and a small "single" loom. The bands for this are made of silicone and can be removed without pulling at the hair. The Hair Loom Studio, also released in May 2015, is used to make designs on the Rainbow Loom, Finger Loom, or Monster Tail, which can then be transferred onto the user's hair by pushing the design off a "guide tube" onto a long strand of hair. It also comes with an instruction manual with pixelated grids for users to photocopy, cut out, measure around the wrist, and design the patterns themselves, with pictures and letters to spell words. It has seven pegs on either side, and it comes with a special hook that has seven hooks on so users can hook over seven bands at once, instead of one. The Alpha Loom, another travel-sized loom that can be used to make vibrantly colored name bracelets with special types of new bands, which are twice as thick but half the size of regular bands. In mid-May 2015, Rainbow Loom released two new products: In April 2014, Ng released a travel-sized version of the Rainbow Loom called the Monster Tail, which allows simple bracelets to be made on only eight pegs, arranged in a rectangle. In 2013, Ng worked with The Beadery and Toner Plastics to produce the Wonder Loom, a redesigned version of the Rainbow Loom that is made in the United States. ![]() The kits are manufactured in China, and Ng supervises distribution out of a 7,500 square feet (700 m 2) warehouse near his home. As of August 2013, 600 retailers were selling Rainbow Loom at a retail price of $15 to $17. Rainbow Loom is also sold at Mastermind Toys in Canada and specialty stores. In June 2013 arts and crafts retail chain Michaels test-marketed the product in 32 stores by August the chain was carrying Rainbow Loom in its 1,100 U.S. In summer 2012, Ng received his first store orders from franchises of Learning Express Toys, a specialty crafts chain, and sales picked up. Ng started a website and filmed instructional videos featuring his daughters and niece. Įfforts to sell the loom online and in toy stores, however, were unsuccessful because customers did not understand how to use the product. Ng decided to rename his product after discovering that an elastic hair band on the market was named Twist Band, and his brother and niece came up with the name Rainbow Loom. He invested $10,000 and found a factory in China to manufacture the parts, which he and his wife assembled in their home in June 2011. His prototype, which he called Twistz Bandz, used a wooden board, pegs, and dental hooks. He spent six months developing the loom kit and designed 28 versions. The bracelets became popular with the neighborhood children, and his daughter suggested that he sell them. He tried to show them how they could link the rubber bands together but was unsuccessful, so he stuck a scrap board with multiple rows of pegs on which the bands could be linked more easily. He conceived the idea of a toy loom for rubber-band crafting after seeing his young daughters make rubber-band bracelets. He was employed as a crash-test engineer for Nissan Motor Company in 2010. Rainbow Loom was created by Cheong Choon Ng, a Malaysian immigrant of Chinese descent who came to the United States in 1991 to attend Wichita State University, where he earned a graduate degree in mechanical engineering. History A fishtail bracelet made from loom bands The Rainbow Loom kit includes the loom (the pegboard), a rainbow loom hook, 25 special C-shaped clips to connect both ends of the bracelet, and 600+ small rubber bands in assorted colors. The resulting looped knots, known as Brunnian links, can be assembled on the loom into bracelets and other shapes. It has push pin-type pegs over which small, colored rubber bands are looped and pulled by a rainbow loom crochet hook. ![]() The Rainbow Loom is a plastic pegboard measuring 2 inches (51 mm) by 8 inches (200 mm). ![]() It was invented in 2010 by Cheong Choon Ng in Novi, Michigan. We love you, Bandit…! Bluey Season 3 episode list coming soon! Only in August, 2022 did it lost that perfect score and slip to a 9.9. Special note – this episode also contains the immortal quote from Bandit, “I’m not taking advice from a cartoon dog”, which is itself advice I am not taking. I’ll leave it at that, but if the last 30 seconds of this episode leaves you cold without even a flicker of something in your tummy, you must be a rock. This leaves Bluey on her own, all old and not sure what happens next. Bingo pretends to be Bluey’s child, and progressively ‘grows up’ through the episode until, at the end, she leaves home (to fly a space ship, of course). Tchaikovskys Waltz of the Flowers is used in a scene where Bluey and Bingo are spinning around in circles trying to lick an ice cream. You might be thinking, why are there two types of virtualization technologies? The key part is in how KVM and QEMU differ, which is summed up nicely in this post. It is described as "set up a simple macOS VM in QEMU, accelerated by KVM." If you ran through setting up the Ubuntu 20.10 daily build in step 4 you'll already have seen QEMU being mentioned. Follow the steps in "Accelerated KVM guests on WSL2" until you reach the section titled Important note about building a module in WSL: Time was fairly tight for getting this up and running, I wasn't going to be tweaking performance and I didn't want to keep loading the KVM for Intel module manually, so:.With this in mind, think twice about running the Dev channel on your main machine, or if you wouldn't consider yourself a highly technical user! Insiders in the Dev Channel will receive builds that is earliest in a development cycle and will contain the latest work-in-progress code from our engineers. Dev channel is described as Ideal for highly technical users. The insider channel renaming is described here. The windows insider page currently lists 19042.423 as the highest build available in Beta and 19041.423 as Release Preview, so for the moment this will not work correctly without using the Dev channel. One of the features required didn't come into Windows 10 until build 19619 and the nested virtualisation support for AMD didn't come in until build 19636 either, so that's a must if you are on AMD too. The insiders Fast ring which is mentioned in the pre-requisites is now the Dev channel. You'll also need to be running a windows insider build of Windows 10. If you're already running a hypervisor, it's likely this is good to go. If your CPU does support virtualization it might not be enabled in your BIOS, it's worth a check before you start. Unless you're running an Intel CPU from the early 2000s or even earlier you should be OK. One thing that's not obvious is your CPU needs to support virtualisation. I am still stunned how good the performance is having run through this!
